Call for Co-Editors
International Journal of TESOL Studies is now seeking new Co-Editors to join its existing editorial team and contribute to its strategic development and continued growth over the coming years.
The International Journal of TESOL Studies (IJTS) is the flagship publication of the International TESOL Union (ITU). As a rapidly growing journal in TESOL and applied linguistics, IJTS is indexed in the Web of Science Emerging Sources Citation Index and Scopus (Q1). The journal is now seeking new Co-Editors to join its existing editorial team and contribute to its strategic development and continued growth over the coming years.
This is a voluntary position and carries no financial remuneration. The initial term of appointment is three years (2027–2029). Reappointment may be considered thereafter, subject to satisfactory performance and mutual agreement between the Co-Editor and the ITU Executive Board.
Responsibilities of Co-Editors
Co-Editors will be expected to:
- Formulate the journal's strategic direction and drive its ongoing development;
- Solicit high-quality submissions and commission special issues on topics of significant current interest to the field;
- Broaden the journal's reach and strengthen its representation across the global community of TESOL and applied linguistics scholars;
- Oversee the timely and efficient processing of manuscripts and render final editorial decisions;
- Uphold rigorous scholarly and ethical standards throughout the peer-review process; and
- Raise the profile, academic reputation, and international influence of IJTS and ITU.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate:
- Scholarly excellence and a strong publication record in TESOL, English language teaching (ELT), or applied linguistics;
- Broad knowledge extending beyond their primary areas of research;
- An extensive and active international network within the TESOL and applied linguistics communities;
- A willingness to handle manuscripts that fall outside their immediate areas of expertise;
- Sound intellectual judgement, excellent communication skills, and well-developed managerial capabilities appropriate to an editorial leadership role;
- The ability to foster a collaborative and collegial team environment and to work constructively with fellow editors to enhance the journal's academic reputation and influence.
Experience with AI-enhanced English language teaching and/or AI‑related developments in TESOL is welcome. Applicants with strong expertise in qualitative research are also encouraged to apply.

Each application should include a current curriculum vitae and a cover letter of no more than 1,000 words. The letter should explain how the applicant and their expertise could contribute to the continued development and growth of IJTS.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in an online interview by 15 November 2026. Final decisions will be announced in early December 2026. Successful candidates are expected to assume their editorial duties in January 2027.
